motmot

Bird of the family Momotidae, order Coraciiformes, that inhabits dense forests in tropical America. The plumage is brilliant (green and blue predominating), the tail is long. They feed mainly on insects and fruit, and occasionally small reptiles. Some species excavate tunnels more than a metre in length and a few centimetres in diameter, at the end of which the eggs are laid.
