Trail

Mining centre in Kootenay Boundary Regional District, southeast British Columbia, Canada, on the Columbia River, 77 km/48 mi southwest of Nelson; population (1991) 8,000. It lies at the centre of a rich mineral bearing district containing gold, silver, lead, zinc, and copper. Industries include smelting, sawmilling, food-processing, and the manufacture of chemicals and fertilizers. It was founded in 1895 as a mining and smelting town.

In the 300,000-acre Camino Real Ranger District, the proposal would: u close 96 miles of existing roads; u designate four miles of unauthorized roads for vehicle use; u create a 300-foot corridor along 117 miles for off-road camping and big game retrieval in five locations; u close six miles of roads near Forest Road 697 for the winter; and u return 24 miles of former motorized trail to non-motorized use.
I found this to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for motorized trail bike enthusiasts to work with numerous state agencies and legislative folks, in conjunction with various leading environmental organizations, to discuss and resolve concerns relating to motorized use in state forests and parks," said Frank Frey, a working group member who is a past president and now legislative director of the New England Trail Riders Association.
States must use 30 percent of their funds for motorized trail uses, 30 percent for non-motorized trail uses and 40 percent for diverse trail uses, which are trails for multiple types of uses.
