Mount Prospect

Village in Cook County, northeastern Illinois, a suburb of Chicago located 37 km/23 mi northwest of the city centre; population (1990) 53,200.

Originally a farming community, Mount Prospect was founded in 1871. Business machines, housewares, and pharmaceuticals are now manufactured here. Due to its proximity to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, almost immediately south, the village experienced dramatic growth during the 1980s.
