Mount Wilson

Site near Los Angeles, California, of the 2.5-m/100-in Hooker telescope, opened in 1917, with which US astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered the expansion of the universe. Two solar telescopes in towers 18.3 m/60 ft and 45.7 m/150 ft tall, and a 1.5-m/60-in reflector opened in 1908, also operate there.
