| The original settlement, called Rattlesnake Station, was moved 16 km/10 mi to its present site in 1883. Mountain Home is now a distribution centre for wool and other agricultural produce; it lies in an area where sheep and cattle are grazed and fruit, sugar beet, and hay are grown. There are also gold and copper mines in the vicinity. The Mountain Home Air Force Base, just southwest of the city, has played an important role in its economy. |
