Mountrath

Market town in County Laois, Republic of Ireland, at the foot of the Slieve Bloom mountains; population (2002) 1,900. It is a centre for fishing, golf, and hillwalking.

In the 17th and 18th centuries Mountrath had a strong linen industry. The gardens of Ballyfur House, 8 km/5 mi north, were laid out by the architect Edwin Lutyens.
