Mouret, Jean Joseph (1682–1738)

French composer. He entered the service of the Duchess of Maine in Paris about 1707 and in 1714 began to write for the stage. He was director of the Concert Spirituel 1728–34, also for a time conductor of the Comédie-Italienne. In 1736 he became insane and was taken to the psychiatric hospital of Charenton.

two Suites de Symphonies, 47 divertissements for orchestra; two books of Concerts de chambre; fanfares.
