MPEG

In computing, a committee of the International Standards Organization, formed in 1988, that sets standards for digital audio and video compression; hence, any file that has been compressed using those standards. The MPEG-1 is the standard for the digital coding of video pictures for CD recording; MPEG-2 is a common standard for broadcast-quality video; and MPEG-4 for Internet telephony. (There is no MPEG-3 as it was absorbed into MPEG-2.)
