Mozartiana

Tchaikovsky's fourth suite for orchestra, Op. 61, composed in 1887. It consists of four works by Mozart scored for orchestra by Tchaikovsky: jig and minuet for piano, K475 and 355; motet Ave, verum corpus, K618, and variations on a theme from La rencontre imprévue by Gluck for piano, K455. First performed in Moscow on 26 November 1887.

The orchestra will perform Copland's El Saln Maxico as accompaniment to Paul Glickman's animated film of the same name; Tchaikovsky's Mozartiana with students from Moving People Dance Centre and violin soloist Martha Caplin of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; and Prokofiev's Symphony No.
Balanchine's Mozartiana starts the programme, a half hour, four-part piece that is minimalist in its delivery but, courtesy of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, rich in its score and aimed at lovers of classical ballet.
Since 1991, when she was named a principal, she has brought her special brand of luster to Balanchine's Agon, Jewels, Mozartiana, Liebeslieder Walzer, Union Jack and many more.
