Mount Vernon, Virginia, residence of George Washington, the first US president. The beautiful estate and gardens, built in the 18th century and situated on the Potomac River south of Washington, DC, are a very popular visitor attraction.

Country estate and burial place of George Washington in Fairfax county, Virginia, on the Potomac River, 24 km/15 mi south of Washington, DC. The property was built in 1743, and was Washington's home from 1752 until his death in 1799. His wife Martha is buried alongside him. The house and grounds were purchased as a national monument in 1860.
