Muffat, Georg

Muffat, Georg (1653–1704)

Austrian organist and composer. In 1678 he was appointed organist to the Archbishop of Salzburg, and after visiting Vienna and Rome went to Passau to become organist to the bishop in 1690.

He studied in Paris, with Lully or members of his school.

Apparatus musico-organisticus for organ (12 toccatas, chaconne, and passacaglia, 1690), Suaviores harmoniae (1695), two volumes for harpsichord.
