Muhammad II (1430–1481)

Sultan of Turkey 1451–81. He took the city of Constantinople from the Byzantines in 1453 and renamed it Istanbul, fortified the Dardanelles, conquered Greece and most of the Balkans, and at sea became the terror of southern Europe.
