Muhammad V (1844–1918)

Sultan of Turkey 1909–18. When the Turkish revolution occurred in 1909 at the instigation of the Young Turks, the army under Shefket Pasha took possession of Constantinople, deposed and exiled the sultan Abd al-Hamid II, and replaced him with his brother Muhammad V.

He in turn was succeeded by his brother Muhammad VI, who was deposed in 1922 and was the last Turkish sultan.
