Muir, John Ramsay Brice

Muir, John Ramsay Brice (1872–1941)

British historian and politician. He was a Liberal member of Parliament for Rochdale 1923–24, and chair 1931–33, then president 1933–36, of the National Liberal Federation. His chief historical work was Short History of the British Commonwealth (two volumes 1920–22).

Muir was educated at University College, Liverpool, and Balliol College, Oxford. He was professor of modern history at Liverpool 1906–13 and at Manchester 1914–21. He was vice president of the Liberal Party organization 1936–41.
