Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory

Radio observatory of the University of Cambridge, England, opened in 1972. Its main instrument is the Ryle Telescope, with eight dishes 12.8 m/42 ft wide; four are mounted on a rail track, and the others are fixed at 1.2 km/0.7 mi intervals, in a 5-km/3-mi long line. It is currently used as part of an array of telescopes that make up the Arcminute Microkelvin Imager (AMI), which observes fine detail in the cosmic background radiation.
