Munfordville

City and seat of Hart County, in the south of Kentucky; population (1990) 1,600. Munfordville lies on the Green River, 56 km/35 mi east-northeast of Bowling Green, and just northeast of Mammoth Cave. It is an agricultural and mill centre.

The Confederate general and later governor of Kentucky Simon Buckner was born in Munfordville in 1823 and died here in 1914. In September 1862, the Southern commander Braxton Bragg captured the town's Union garrison.
