Pudsey
| Town in West Yorkshire, England, west of Leeds; population (2001) 32,400. It has an important woollen and worsted trade, and there are dyeing and fulling mills. Iron and brass foundries are located here and machinery is made. Fulneck, a Moravian settlement since 1745, lies within the town. |
| In the early 6th century Pudsey and the neighbourhood are thought to have been the centre of the kingdom of Elmete, which retained its independence for more than 200 years after other kingdoms had been subdued by the Saxons. The name Pudsey occurs in the Domesday Book. |
