Munk, Walter H(einrich) (1917– )

Austrian-born oceanographer. He made major contributions to research on ocean acoustics, tides, and the earth's rotation. Born in Vienna, Austria, he moved to the USA in 1932, and became a professor of geophysics at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (1947).
