Murray, Andy (1987– )

Scottish tennis player, who turned professional in 2005. In February 2006, he won his first ATP tour title, defeating Australian Lleyton Hewitt in the final of the San Jose Open.

As a junior, he won the 2004 US Open junior title aged 17. He also reached the semifinals of the junior doubles tournament there, playing with his brother Jamie. In March 2005, while still an amateur, he became Britain's youngest ever Davis Cup player, winning a doubles match as part of a 3–2 win over Israel. In the summer of that year, he won two Challenger Series tournaments in Aptos, California and in Binghamton, New York. In September 2005, he reached his first ATP tour final, losing to world number one Roger Federer in the final of the Thailand Open. In February 2007 he retained his title in San Jose and by April of that year he had broken into the world's top ten for the first time.
