Murray

City and seat of Calloway County, southwestern Kentucky; population (2000) 15,000. Murray is located on the East Fork of the Clarks River, 60 km/37 mi south-southeast of Paducah.

Murray has flour, feed, and timber mills, together with various light manufacturing industries. It is also an agricultural market centre and gateway to the ‘Land Between the Lakes’. Murray State University (founded 1922) is situated here.

City in Salt Lake County, north-central Utah, a residential suburb of Salt Lake City located some 13 km/8 mi south of the city centre; population (1990) 31,300.

Murray is also a retail hub and a trade centre for an irrigated farming area. It contains a diversity of light manufacturing, including high-tech firms specializing in computer technology. The city is the site of the county fairgrounds.
