1948USAIn New York City, the musical Kiss Me, Kate, with lyrics by Bella and Samuel Spewack, and music by Cole Porter, is first performed. It is based on William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.
1949USAIn New York City, the musical South Pacific, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein and music by Richard Rodgers, is first performed.
1950USAThe musical Guys and Dolls, by Frank Loesser and Abe Burrows, is first performed, in New York City. It is taken from the collection of stories by the US writer Damon Runyon.
