Muskegon County

Administrative district of western Michigan; area 1313 sq km/507 sq mi, population (1990) 159,000. Muskegon County is bounded on the west by Lake Michigan, and drained by the Muskegon and White rivers. Its seat is at the city of Muskegon.

There are numerous state parks and recreational areas along the lakeshore of Muskegon County, while inland lie the Muskegon State Game Area and parts of Manistee National Forest. Commercial fishing and tourism in the west are also important to the county, and some manufacturing takes place at Muskegon. The county's agricultural output includes vegetables, fruit, beans, poultry, livestock, cereals, and dairy goods.
