Muskingum County

Administrative district of east-central Ohio; area 1,694 sq km/654 sq mi, population (1990) 82,000. The county is crossed by the Licking and Muskingum rivers and includes Dillon Lake. Its seat is at Zanesville, the only major city in this largely rural county.

Agricultural activvity in Muskingum County includes dairy farming, the cultivation of fruit and cereals grain, and livestock rearing. There is some manufacturing industry at Roseville and Zanesville. Natural resources found in the county are gravel, clay, coal, limestone, and sand.
