Mutaguchi, Renya (1888–1966)

Japanese general in World War II. An ambitious and hot-tempered man, he commanded the Japanese force which captured Malaya and Singapore 1941, then went to command the 15th Japanese Army in Burma (now Myanmar) where he planned and commanded the disastrous offensives against Imphal and Kohima 1944. Following his failure, he was dismissed and was employed in administrative jobs thereafter.
