Mutter, Anne-Sophie

    0.06 sec.

Mutter, Anne-Sophie (1963– )

German violinist. She attracted the attention of German conductor Herbert von Karajan at the 1976 Lucerne Festival and appeared with him at Salzburg the following year. She made her UK debut in 1977, with the London Symphony Orchestra, under Argentinean-Israeli conductor Daniel Barenboim. She made her US debut in Washington in 1980 and her Moscow debut in 1985. Her youthful virtuosity is admired in the standard concertos, though she is particularly known for her performances of modern pieces. In 1986 she gave the first performance of Lutosławski's Chain II for violin and orchestra.

She has won several Grammy Awards, for example for her performance of Beethoven's violin sonatas (2000). She was married to German-born US conductor André Previn 2002–06.
