Muzorewa, Abel (Tendekayi) (1925– )Zimbabwean politician and Methodist bishop. He was president of the African National Council 1971–85 and prime minister of Rhodesia/Zimbabwe 1979–80. He was detained for a year in 1983–84. Muzorewa was leader of the minority United Africa National Council, which merged with the Zimbabwe Unity Movement (ZUM) in 1994. He pulled out of the 1996 presidential election contest at the last minute, claiming the electoral process was unfairly tilted in President Mugabe's favour. Muzorewa was educated at Methodist colleges in Rhodesia and Nashville, Tennessee. How to thank TFD for its existence?
