Mytishchi

City in the Moscow oblast (region), western Russian Federation, 19 km/12 mi northeast of Moscow; population (1996 est) 152,000. The city has large engineering industries (producing commercial vehicles, subway cars, and laboratory equipment). It is also the site of Moscow's main waterworks (built 1779).
