N (letter)

    0.03 sec.

N

14th letter of the English alphabet, from the Greek nu (Ν, ν). The sound it represents is a voiced alveolar nasal. In several Romance languages it disappears in many cases, leaving a trace in the nasalization of the preceding vowel.

English also contains a voiced velar nasal, written either ng (as in ‘sing’) or n (as in ‘sink’).
