NASDAQ

US stock market. NASDAQ was founded by the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. in 1971, starting life as the solution to a problem identified in a report from the US Securities and Exchange Commission. NASDAQ soon took on a life of its own. The NASDAQ index is heavily weighted with technology stocks and shared the rollercoaster ride those stocks have experienced through the 1990s and the beginning of the new millennium. In 1994 the annual volume of shares traded on the NASDAQ index surpassed the annual volume traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
