NSAID

Any of a class of drugs used in the long-term treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis; they act to reduce swelling and pain in soft tissues. Bleeding into the digestive tract is a serious side effect: NSAIDs should not be taken by persons with peptic ulcers.

A systematic Cochrane review of nine studies has revealed that NSAIDs like ibuprofen and naproxen can relieve pain, fever, and other symptoms related common cold, but not prevent or treat it.
But in a significant departure from its 2002 guideline, the AGS recommends that nonselective NSAIDs and cyclooxy-genase-2 (COX-2) selective inhibitors "be considered rarely, and with extreme caution, in highly selected individuals.
