Nagel, Steven Ray (1946– )

US astronaut. His four space shuttle flights include two German Spacelab missions: on Challenger in October 1985 and on Columbia in April 1993. Nagel was selected as an astronaut in 1979. He left NASA's Astronaut Office in 1995 to become deputy director of the Johnson Space Center. In 1996 he became a NASA research pilot.
