Nakuru

Town and capital of the Rift Valley province, western Kenya, 160 km/99 mi northwest of Nairobi; population (1999) 219,400, (2007 calc) 273,000. The town has food-processing industries; local products include wheat, maize, sisal, coffee, and pyrethrum. Nakuru is the junction of the Uganda and Kisumu branches of the main railway across Kenya. Not far away is Lake Nakuru, a soda lake that is home to flamingos.
