Nanino, Giovanni Bernardino

Nanino, Giovanni Bernardino (c. 1560–1623)

Italian composer. He studied under his brother, Giovanni Maria Nanino, went to Rome, and was maestro di cappella at the church of San Luigi de' Francesi 1591–1608, and later at that of San Lorenzo in Damaso. He made early use of the basso continuo (a harmonic accompaniment with a bass line, prevalent in 17th-century baroque music).
