Nanterre

Administrative centre of the département of Hauts-de-Seine; population (1990) 86,600. It is a northwestern suburb of Paris, standing at the foot of Mont-Valérien. It contains the shrine of St Geneviève, patron saint of Paris, who was born here. There are chemical and metal manufactures, many offices, and a university.
