Naracoorte

Town in South Australia, 385 km/239 mi southeast of Adelaide; population (1996) 4,674. Naracoorte is a large commercial centre for an agricultural region, with sheep-grazing and the manufacture of dairy products. The Naracoorte Caves, 11 km/7 mi from the town, are deep limestone caverns which include stalactite and stalagmite formations; the Victoria Fossil Cave contains unique fossilized specimens of ice-age animals.
