Nast, Condé (Montrose) (1873–1942)

US publisher. He transformed Vogue into the USA's premier fashion magazine, then turned Vanity Fair into a sophisticated magazine for all that was stylish; he eventually owned a stable of high-class magazines, including House and Garden, British and French Vogue, and Glamour.

Nast was born in New York, New York. After working for Collier's Weekly (1898–1907), he bought Vogue (1909), which was then a small New York society magazine. Nearly ruined in the Great Depression, he spent his last years struggling to regain his early prosperity.
