Nast, Condé (Montrose) (1873-1942)

US publisher. He transformed Vogue into the USA's premier fashion magazine, then turned Vanity Fair into a sophisticated magazine for all that was stylish; he eventually owned a stable of high-class magazines, including House and Garden, British and French Vogue, and Glamour.

Nast was born in New York, New York. After working for Collier's Weekly (1898-1907), he bought Vogue (1909), which was then a small New York society magazine. Nearly ruined in the Great Depression, he spent his last years struggling to regain his early prosperity.
