Netanya

City in Israel, 30 km/19 mi north of Tel Aviv-Yafo, on the Mediterranean coast; population (1995) 148,400. Originally planned as an agricultural settlement, Netanya is now a rapidly expanding city, and is the capital of Sharon district. Its main industry is diamond cutting and polishing, but it also has an industrial suburb with textile mills and pharmaceutical factories. Netanya is a tourist resort.
