Nayarit

Nayarit state, on the central Pacific coast of Mexico. Nayarit's chief Pacific port, San Blas, lies south of the Grande de Santiago River and its fertile valley. Among other agricultural products, the state grows maize, sugarcane, cotton, coffee, and tobacco, and its coastal lagoons have a number of wild bird refuges.

State of Mexico, on the Pacific; area 27,600 sq km/ 10,656 sq mi; population (2000 est) 919,700. Its capital is Tepic. The state includes part of the Sierra Madre Occidental and is a region of narrow valleys, deep gorges, and volcanoes, such as Ceboruco and Sangangüey. The main occupations are cattle-raising and farming, producing cereals, cotton, sugar-cane, coffee, and tobacco.
