NeXTStep

Operating system and development environment, originally created for the NeXT workstation, but later made available for other computers, including the IBM PC. NeXTStep is based on Unix but contains a high level of object orientation. Apple used NeXTStep (more accurately, OpenStep) as the basis for its next-generation Macintosh operating system in 1997.
