Neidlinger, Gustav (1912–1991)

German bass-baritone. He made his debut in Mainz. Between 1936 and 1950 he performed in Hamburg, moving to Stuttgart in 1950. In 1958 he visited Edinburgh as Lysiart and Kurwenal. His best role was Wagner's Alberich, which he sang at Bayreuth 1952–75, in London, at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, from 1963, and in the first studio recording of the Ring. Other roles included Pizarro, Klingsor, Sachs, and Telramund.
