Neile, Richard (1562–1640)

English prelate, archbishop of York from 1631. He was bishop of Rochester 1608–10 and appointed William Laud as his chaplain. In 1610 he was translated to Lichfield, removing to Lincoln in 1614, Durham in 1617, and Winchester in 1628. He sat regularly on the High Commission and in the Star Chamber.
