Nelson, George

Nelson, George (1907–1986)

US industrial designer. Among his original concepts were the pedestrian mall (1942), storage wall (1946), and office work station (1947). He edited Architectural Forum (1935–44), Design Journal (1968–73), and various design books.

Nelson was born in Hartford, Connecticut. After architecture studies at Yale, Catholic University, and the American Academy in Rome, he founded his own industrial design firm (1946) and became design director at Herman Miller Furniture Company.
