Nelson, George Driver (1950– )

US astronaut. His three space shuttle missions include the Challenger flight in April 1984 to deploy the Long-Duration Exposure Facility, when he undertook ten hours of extravehicular activity; and the Discovery mission in September 1988 to deploy the Tracking and Data-Relay Satellite. Nelson was selected as an astronaut in 1978 and retired from NASA in 1989.
