Nelsova, Zara (1918– )

Canadian cellist. She studied in London and made her debut there in 1931 with the London Symphony Orchestra. She was principal cellist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra between 1940 and 1943. She made her New York debut 1942, and studied further with Casals and Piatigorsky; in 1953 she was made a US citizen. She has taught at the Juilliard School of Music, New York from 1962. In 1969 she gave the first performance of Hugh Wood's concerto.
