| Czech novelist and collector of folk tales. Her chief work is Babička/The Grandmother 1855, an idealized chronicle of rural life in the Bohemian countryside, as is A Mountain Village 1856. The Four Seasons 1856 is a half-Christian, half-pagan dream, written in a style that is ahead of its time. |
