Nereid

In Greek mythology, any of 50 sea goddesses, or nymphs, who sometimes mated with mortals. Their father was Nereus, a sea god, and their mother was Doris.

Nereid

Outermost moon of Neptune, discovered in 1949 by Dutch-born US astronomer Gerard Kuiper. It is 340 km/210 mi in diameter and orbits Neptune in a highly elliptical orbit ranging from 1.4 million km/0.87 million mi to 9.6 million km/6 million mi from Neptune. It has a period (time taken to circle the planet) of 360 days.
