Nessler, Viktor (Ernst) (1841–1890)

German composer. He was well known for his opera Der Trompeter von Säckingen (1884), which was often conducted by Mahler.

He studied theology at Strasbourg, but took to music and produced a French opera there in 1864. He then went to Leipzig, where he became a choral and afterwards an operatic conductor.
