Neubrandenburg

Town in the Land (administrative region) of Brandenburg, Germany, on the River Tollense, 113 km/70 mi north of Berlin; population (2005 est) 68,200. There are engineering, chemical, and paper industries in the town. Between 1359 and 1471 Neubrandenburg was capital of the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Stargard. It has an 18th-century palace and medieval churches and walls.

The old town is surrounded by an almost complete circuit of fortifications (probably late 13th century), together with town gates. There are museums of history and prehistory.

In 1993 they began their own concert series in Berlin and they were so successful that by 2001 they began a parallel concert series in Neubrandenburg, while in September 1999, the quartet was designated "Quartet in Residence" in County Sligo/Ireland.
