Neustrelitz

Town in the Land (administrative region) of Mecklenburg–West Pomerania, Germany, 24 km/15 mi south of Neubrandenburg; population (1995) 24,700. It was formerly the capital of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg. Neustrelitz has a number of engineering industries.

The town had a baroque palace which was destroyed in 1945, although the surrounding park with its original layout remains. The Neustrelitz Lake District, with about 300 lakes, is a tourist attraction.
